1. 27TH ANNUAL JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL
===========================
The Consulate General of Japan at Montreal and the Japan Foundation are hosting their 27th annual Japanese film festival and will be presenting free screenings of Japanese films at Cinéma du Parc on November 12th and November 13th. If you would like to see MEMORIES OF MATSUKO (dir. Nakashima Tetsuya) with us, we will be meeting at the Roddick Gates on November 12th at 7:45PM and make our way shortly then after to Cinéma du Parc for the screening at 8:45. Based on a Japanese novel by Muneki Yamada, MEMORIES OF MATSUKO is a film about the discovery of the body of Matsuko, a woman killed at the age of 53, and the reflections her nephew Sho has on the tragic life she led. A full synopsis can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memories_of_Matsuko#Synopsis. For more information about the film schedule please visit Cinéma du Parc’s website here: http://www.cinemaduparc.com

2. DIM SUM at MAISON KAM FUNG

If you’d like to come, please rsvp the number in your party to eassamcgill@gmail.com before this Thursday November 11th so we can call ahead and reserve a table. We’ll be meeting at the Roddick Gates on Saturday November 13th at 10:00am and make our way there shortly thenafter. Hope to see you there!

3. 2011 SKI STORM at MT. STONEHAM
=======================
*****PLEASE FIND SIGN UP SHEET ATTACHED TO THIS EMAIL*******

EASSA is organizing its FIRST SKI TRIP ever this year! Going out for movies and dim sum is fun and all, but it’s just not the same as bonding on an overnight trip to snowy slopes where we can have a great time skiing, eating, and hot tubbing… in a bar (yes, seriously). EASSA has joined up with the student groups MCSS, HKSN and MANABA on a trip to Stoneham Ski Resort on January 14-16th, 2011, and not only is it a beautiful place to ski or to just chill for a weekend, we’ve also got a good deal in terms of pricing. Here’s the basic info:

WHO: You guys! Please invite your friends, and you do NOT have to be an EAS student to join. Anybody is welcome!

WHEN: January 14-16, 2011 (Fri-Sun)
Bus will depart at 1:30pm at the Roddick Gates on Friday so we can have time to do some night skiing from the get go, and will arrive at the mountain by 5:00pm. We’ll be back in Montreal by about 8:00pm on Sunday.

WHERE: Stoneham Ski Resort
A deluxe hotel a few steps away from the bar, rentals office and ski lifts. It is well-furnished, has a fridge and can fit 4 people to a room. If you have 4 people and can sign up together, that would be fantastic If not, that’s okay too! We can assign you to a room and you’ll have the chance to meet new people, which isn’t so bad either. By the way, there is a hot tub right IN the bar beside the resort, so you wouldn’t want to miss that.

PRICE (everything is tax included):
** Cost (transportation and accommodations included):
₪ Base price: $130
₪ Base + One day ski pass: $160
₪ Base + Two day ski pass (includes BONUS Friday night): $175 only!

**Rentals:
₪ 1 day rental: $32.00
₪ 2 days rental: $64.00
₪ 3 days rental: $84.00
₪ Snowpark helmet: $6.00 (This is absolutely essential if you decide to use the Snowpark)

** In terms of food: We will be stopping at IGA before reaching the mountain so you guys can stock up on food and other stuff for the trip, but if you don’t want to cook, on-site cafeteria pricing is as follows:
₪ Breakfast: $7.50 (cereal, toast or muffin and yogurt, juice or coffee)
₪ Daily Special: $11.50 (soup, main course, bread and butter, dessert and beverage)

HOW TO SIGN UP:
A member from the EASSA executive will be present in the EAS lounge (3434 McTavish) between 12:00 and 3:00pm from Monday November 15th to Friday November 19th to collect registration forms and fees.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: November 26th, 2010 (Friday)

If you have any questions or can’t drop by between the 15th to 19th to register, please don’t hesitate to email us back or contact any of the following people:
Vinci Ting (514-573-8130)
Joanna Lai (514-515-0335)

If you’re not skiing, join us for some lounging over hot chocolate! We promise it’ll be lots of fun.

4. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: ORIENTATIONS VOL. 10 Transcultural Perspectives on Asia
=====================================================
We’d like to put in a call for SUBMISSIONS for Orientations, our East Asian Studies undergraduate journal. The deadline for submissions has been decided; please send in any work (essays, poetry, artwork, etc.) you would like to be put into consideration by December 3rd, 2010. We would like to start working on selecting which pieces to put in the journal ASAP and have them edited in February, so please don’t miss the deadline! We’d love to look at any sort of submissions, so please don’t hesitate to send in anything East Asia-related that you may want to publish to orientationsmcgill@gmail.com.

And of course, we are still looking for EDITORS as well as people who may want to help with DESIGNING the layout of our journal. If you’re interested, send an email to orientationsmcgill@gmail.com anytime and we’ll notify you of our first planning meeting once we have all the submissions!
